Welcome to Corrie Nursery’s class page!
We are happy to meet our new starters and returning children – If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask one of the Nursery team.
Please provide your child with spare clothes to leave in a draw string bag at Nursery. Ensure everything is labelled with your child’s name including their uniform, coat and shoes. Your child will also need a pair
of wellington boots and a waterproof coat to ensure they can access the outdoor environment in all weathers. Children are provided each day with fresh fruit and milk or water. You can bring a labelled water bottle (although not essential)
Our topic for Autumn 1 – All About Me/Our pets
This half term we will be learning about ‘ourselves’. We will explore our feelings and emotions and what we like/dislike. We will talk about our family, pets and community. We will encourage new vocabulary and communication and language skills everyday through stories, songs and carpet time activities.
The key texts this term are ‘The Colour Monster’ -‘Ten in The Bed’- ‘The Family Book’- ‘Dear Zoo- ‘Pet This Book’-‘Animal Boogie- ‘Monkey and Me’ and ‘My Hair’.
Reading at home
In Nursery, we encourage you to share stories with your child every day. We also suggest you access the local library where you can enjoy a range of books and stories. In class we have a bank of ‘core stories’ that the children will hear often throughout their time in Nursery. They should become familiar with these stories, allowing them to talk about the story, characters and settings confidently. Sharing books
In the next few weeks, every child will take home a new library loan book each fortnight. This is a good opportunity to enjoy sharing a book together and talk about the story. See if your child can answer your questions or retell parts of the story.
Maths
We will explore number and counting backwards and forwards through lots of fun number rhymes. We will also develop our sense of number through our counting activities and begin to recognise and match numerals to an amount.
Phonics
This term the children will begin to start Super Sounds Phase 1 phonics, through planned and purposeful play. We will use stories, songs and the learning environment to develop speaking and listening skills and phonological awareness. Phase 1 Phonics paves the way to developing good early reading and writing skills.
Talk in Nursery
Communication development is a big part of our Nursery Day. Communication skills are essential to develop positive relationships and pave the way for future success. We recognise that each child is unique in their development and we work closely with parents and carers to identify how we can support the children to be successful and confident communicators.
