Welcome back and a very warm welcome to Year 2!
We hope you have all had a wonderful summer and are feeling excited for the year ahead. We are looking forward to a busy and exciting first term filled with engaging learning experiences, new challenges and lots of opportunities for the children to develop their confidence, independence and curiosity.
Things to Remember:
Daily Essentials
A labelled water bottle, these will be washed each day and returned home each half term.
A healthy snack should be brought each day. This must be fruit or another healthy alternative.
PE
PE lessons will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
PE kits will be kept on classroom pegs and returned home at half term.
Forest School
Forest School will take place on Wednesdays and will begin during the week commencing 14th September. Forest school clothes should be brought into school in the morning and will be returned at the end of the day.
Reading
Reading books should be brought into school every day.
Reading books will be changed on Wednesdays.
We encourage you to read with your child at least three times each week, as regular reading is one of the best ways to support progress.
Homework
Homework will be sent home on Fridays and should be returned by Wednesday.
Library Books
A new library book will be issued each Friday and should be returned on Wednesday.
What We Will Be Learning This Term
English
We will be developing our reading, writing, speaking and listening skills through a range of exciting texts and activities. The children will have opportunities to write for different purposes whilst continuing to improve their spelling, punctuation and grammar skills.
Mathematics
This term we will be focusing on securing and developing our number skills to 100. We will also be learning about:
- Addition and subtraction
- Money
- Multiplication and division
History
Our history focus this half term is our local area and its history. We will be exploring how our local community has changed over time and discovering interesting facts about the place where we live.
Geography
In geography, we will be studying Magical Maps, where we will learn different ways to find our way around and develop our map-reading skills.
Science
Our science learning will include:
- Uses of materials
- Healthy lifestyles, including feeding, exercise and keeping ourselves healthy
Art
We will be exploring the work of local artists, learning how to observe, appraise and form our own opinions about their artwork.
Design Technology
We will become designers as we create and make their very own hats, developing their planning, designing and evaluation skills.
Computing
We will be developing their computing skills by exploring how information technology is used in everyday life, including in homes, shops, libraries, and hospitals. They will learn about using technology responsibly and making safe choices online. In digital photography, children will capture, edit, and improve photographs while developing an understanding that not all images they see are real.
PSHE (Jigsaw)
We will be learning about Being Me in My World and Celebrating Differences.
PE
We will take part in dance and invasion games, building teamwork, coordination, and confidence.
RE
We will explore the question Who is a Muslim and what do they believe?
Music
We will explore a range of styles and genres, including South African music, Christmas music, Big Band, Motown, Elvis Presley, and Freedom Songs.
